Girl Starts Marketing Career |
A 25 year old college student begins her career in marketing. This blog is the personal documentary of all the things she realizes along the way. * My employer's names are kept confidential * |
There were a few reasons why I agreed to accompany my sales manager to the Delaware Home Show last Saturday: 1.) I could witness her sales skills, 2.) I could learn about the other products we offer, and 3.) I could put that experience on my resume. The show was a success because she sold $3,000 worth of vacuum cleaners. I didn’t really know what to expect when I went there since I only know about our air purifiers - and I have yet to sell one.
I can’t help but feel a little strange convincing people that they should spend a considerable amount of money on one of our products. Although I believe that they are worth it, it goes against my personality to push people. That kind of situation is going to happen in my career though, whether I’m convincing someone of an idea, that they should hire me, etc. Having an assertive personality to some degree is beneficial. Just know when it’s appropriate.
Towards the end of the day I was able to approach random people and sign them up for a “free home allergn test”. I had started to feel less like a pest. The next step my manager and I will do together is call these leads and schedule appointments. Then, once they see the results of the air and carpets in their home, they hopefully will buy our products. Stay tuned!
